30 of you came and began the OMG adventure with us. Stage One : Clear The Site was done in no time at all so we were able to make our first compost heap as well. This was 1.5 by 5 meters and was made using the compost, biochar, worm castings and biomass accumulated on the site over the past few years. Keep an eye out for our Start Up schedule which will be announced in the coming week so you can integrate this learning adventure into your life. Thanks @stonesoupsyndicate for the photo of the hardcore crew who stayed till the end. #organicsinthecity #biodynamicsinthecity #urbanrenewal #socialsculpture #energywork #biologicalsystemsandenergysystems #growingfoodinourcity #openclassroom #everyoneiswelcome #citybeecolaboration #citysafeforbees

Products that harm bees or other things…including us. We like to focus on good news.... BUT you asked us for a list so we went and read the labels on the back of 16 products at our local gardening store. Here is what they said on 3. The other 13 are on our FB page. Come to our biology-first teaching classes to learn how to garden without having to go anywhere near these harmful products.
Yates-Confidor-Ready to use Insecticide (registered to Bayer distributed by Yates)label states-Harmful to terrestrial invertebrates. Toxic to Bees. Avoid contact with skin and inhalation of spray mist. Has a 3 day holding period when sprayed on food.

Kiwicare-Spectrum label states-Store away from foodstuffs, children. Avoid contact with skin and inhalation of spray. Wash hands and exposed skin after use. Do not use around food or animal feed producing plants. Harmful to aquatic life. Do not spray on flowers if they are likely to be visited by bees.

Yates-Natures Way-Pyrethrum Is a natural insect spray but is harmful to bees if they make contact with it when its wet. #biologyfirst #toxicstuff #beesafecity #stopuseingthisstuffnow #organicak #organiccity #citybeecolaboration

Join in our Working Bee - This coming Saturday from 10-1 at 257 Symonds Street. We are gathering to clear the site in preparation for the new #OMG Organic Market Garden and open classroom we are developing as part of the #citybeecolaboration. This will enable our community to take what they learn at our community teaching hub at Griffith Gardens ( pictured here) and apply it at another scale. A huge thanks to our waterers who have kept our garden alive over summer. #becomepartofthesolution #biologicalgardeningisourfuture #innercitymarketgarden #organiccity #organicak #citysafeforbiologicalsystems #citysafeforbees

We started the year collaborating with some amazing Auckland innovators facilitating a Bermaculture workshop with @kaiauckland @gardens4health at a site originally activated by @girlwithadaisy. 25 of you turned up to learn how to turn passive green spaces into organic Biological Bee Sanctuaries. We have had interest in another Bermaculture workshop...so stay tuned for another date for workshop number two on Bermaculture a name we think was made up by the wonderful Richard Main. #citybeecollaboration #everyonejoinsin #organicak #organiccity #citysafeforbees

Jimmy took home some of our organic seedlings and seeds to grow at home after he grew a successful crop of Broadbeans from seeds we gifted him earlier in 2017. We begin our weekly classes at Griffith Gardens on the 1st of Feb where we will help you become a biological gardener. This means learning how to successfully grow food for yourself while making sure your garden is also really safe for pollinators and microbes. Join us in this journey and help create a legacy for our city one organic flower at a time. #biologicalgardens #organiccity #organicak #citysafeforbees #citybeecolaboration #griffithgardens

Merry Christmas may all our pollinators dreams come true #citysafeforallpollinators #citybeecollaboration #organicak #organiccity
Our last post before Christmas is to acknowledge and celebrate the Waitmata Local Board members who have supported so many projects in the city who are focusing on increasing the biodiversity including encouraging behaviours that will help us become the safest city in the world for bees. We are so grateful that this Local Board is prepared to support changes that will make our commons safer for us in the long term. Your willingness to collaborate and your vision and courage makes a huge difference to our city. So a huge shout out from us to @pippacoom @robthomasnz @adriana_christie Richard Northey and Shale Chambers and Vernon Tava. Here they are earlier this year answering questions from high school students during a Green Jam about actions they could take to turn their city into a safer place for bees by making a stand for Spray Free Street and Parks... a project @fortheloveofbeesnz hopes to collaborate with the city on in 2018. #everyonecanmakeadifference #visionforasaferfuture #whatittakestobeagoodleader #beinggrateful #celebratingactions #citysafeforbees #citybeecollaboration
