Amazing Anna Dadson runs a session every Thursday from 12-2 at Griffith Gardens our demonstration biology first teaching hub. Anyone can turn up for 10 mins or the whole two hours and join in. Every week there is a teaching focus but once that is attended to you can ask questions and help in the gardens so that you can get some hands on time in the soil and with the plants to give you confidence to begin organic gardening in your own spaces. Why we do this is because every bee hive colony introduced into our city requires a billion flowers to survive. Without these flowers all of pollinators cannot thrive. Today’s session is focused on developing rosemary cuttings that can be given away. Rosemary plants produce all year round flowers for pollinators and are one of the easiest plants to care for. Come and learn how to make a cutting and take one home and help Auckland become a safe city for bees. #everybodycanmakeadifference #lunchtimelearning #biologicalthinking #learnfromeachother #planningahead #biologicalpollinatorsanctuary #regenerate #citybeecollaboration #citysafeforallpollinators #citysafeforallbiologicalsystems #urbanregeneration @bananzza7546
It might not look like much but this stick is a fig tree made from a tiny cutting off the incredible fig tree at @highwic1862 last year at our first public workshop on the grounds. This Sunday we are running our second orchard workshop at Highwic where you can come and help restore the grounds while learning some great tips for your own gardens. 10.30-12.30 Ellen and Ricky from the #treecroppersassocciation will demonstrate best practice for establishing a resilient Fruit Tree Orchard. This workshop is enabled by Highwic and the Parnell Rotary Club. Orchards are a great way to establish food for pollinators as they require visits from them in order for their blossoms to produce food for humans. #holdinghandsacrossthecity #everybodycanmakeadifference #citybeecollaboration #citysafeforallpollinators #citysafeforallbiologicalsystems #biologicalsystems #planningahead #foodforpollinatorsandhumans #urbanregeneration #regenerativeparks
Don’t miss the chance to learn how to properly prepare and plant an orchard with experts from the Tree Coppers Association this weekend at @highwic1862 on Saturday from 9-1 pm. It’s part of the orchard restoration we are doing at Highwic to #regenerate their park. We have tried to use trees likely to have been in NZ at the time. Brian from the #treecroppersassocciation donated an extra fruit tree, a Luisa Plum, probably one of the best ever with really beautiful and bountiful eating plums that was discovered in NZ. So come and be part of this learning adventure lead by Ellen Schindler and Ricky and help regenerate our city for humans and pollinators. This workshop will be followed up with a fruit tree grafting workshop held at the #treecroppersassocciation meeting place next month. #regenerativeparks #citybeecollaboration #citysafeforallpollinators #citysafeforallbiologicalsystems #orchard #fruittrees #foodforhumansandpollinators #learnfromeachother #urbanregeneration #urbanorchard #biologicalpollinatorsanctuary #biologicalthinking #planningahead #organicak
Our Working Bee is happening NOW at OMG 257 Symonds Street. We have had a few set backs regarding our funding but we are finally underway and we would love to have your help. Come and be part of creating this special project which will become a place to learn how to grow organic food to feed our community. Come and help develop our gardens beds with us this morning .

The collaboration at @highwic1862 continues thanks to the incredible work of our facilitators and generators. Newmarket and Parnell Primary students continue to care for their beautiful Pasture Painting and learn more about the life they are helping to preserve.
As our faciliators @nicky.elmore and @levi.brinsdonhall and Kathryn Tulloch, Walter Dendl and #parnellrotaryclub and @nzbox are helping the Highwic Project go from strength to strength. "It's great to be building on our learning over time and to be making plans for the future. Roll on September 7 for the next day of amazing learning. If your keen to join in by creating a project like this somewhere in your neighbour hood let us know and we will try to help you. #everybodycanmakeadifference #holdinghandsacrossthecity #citybeecollaboration #citysafeforallpollinators #workingtogether #imagineitandmakeithappen
We want to congratulate Daniel Patterson who has been recognised for his project, the Tokoroa Bee Corridor.
Daniel has led a community which has been cleaning, clearing and sowing vacant kiwi rail land the length of Tokoroa. Stage one involved a 1.84 tonne cleanup of rubbish along the train tracks that pass through the middle of town. The long-term goal is implementing the scheme the length of the South Waikato.
Daniel received his award at the 'Honouring Volunteers' annual ceremony where the mayor, CEO and MP Louise Upston honoured community groups for the time they give and the work they do.

Thanks to Minette @minettetonoli who gifted us this mix of poppy seedlings. We will plant them during Lunchtime Learning this Thursday 12-2 at Griffith's Gardens. We can't wait to see what colours will spring up! #everybodycanmakeadifference #citybeecollaboration #citybeecollaboration #biologicalthinking #citysafeforallbiologicalsystems #foodforbees #flowersarefoodforpollinators #urbanregeneration
This week at Lunchtime Learning on Thursday from 12-2 Anna Dadson will be showing you how to take a cutting from a rosemary plant to produce new plants. It’s part of our project 1000 Rosemary Plants for Auckland where we attempt to co-create another 1000 plants for the city. Rosemary is a fantastic plant for pollinators as it produces flowers in Auckland nearly all year round. It also requires very little water or care. If you want a plant come and visit us and take one of ours home and plant it and help us turn our city into a safe place for pollinators. #citybeecollaboration #citysafeforallpollinators #citysafeforallbiologicalsystems #planningahead #biologicalthinking #rosemary #beefood
Today we continue to regenerate @highwic1862 with the amazing communities who are imagining and actioning change in our city. @nicky.elmore @nzbox @levi.brinsdonhall #parnellprimary #newmarketprimaryschool #balmoralprimaryschool will continue to transform this #akpark leaving it more Bee friendly than they found it. Thanks #parnellrotaryclub #enviroschools, #treecroppers association and #waitemata local board for supporting this project. We invite you to join us on this Regenerative adventure. We are screening our fourth film in our hopeful film series - 'Just Eat It' on a night centred around food waste. Come get a sense of the issue and hear how you can be a part of the solution! We will learn how to make the most of the food we have with Love Food Hate Waste - New Zealand and discover how to share surplus with anyone who needs it.
Amanda in Waste-Free Land our Local Hero will speak about the Community Fridge at Griffiths Gardens, which she instigated.

Artist @shelleylsimpson has collaborated with us by making these wonderful posters that reveal the incredible shape and textures of both calendula and cornflower seeds. When your sowing seeds to grow flowers for bees it’s important to make sure you sow untreated or organic seeds so that the flowers you grow produce nectar and pollen that is safe for pollinators. “It all starts with a seed...make sure your seeds are organic.” #biologicalthinking #planningahead #citysafeforallpollinators #citysafeforallbiologicalsystems #holdinghandsacrossthecity #citybeecollaboration #artistsmakingadifference @0800phantom #griffithgardens
